Protecting Natural Resources
Protecting Loreto’s environmental resources is of utmost importance to us, our donors, and future generations.

Recycling
Recycling for a Cleaner, Greener Loreto
Every bottle, box, and broken pipe we recycle is one less piece of waste threatening our oceans, wildlife, and neighborhoods.
Thanks to your support, Keep Loreto Magical is expanding local recycling efforts — collecting cardboard, paper, glass, select plastic bottles, and even discarded irrigation pipes to reduce pollution, cut landfill use, and keep our coastal community clean.
By working with residents, businesses, and volunteers, we’re building a culture of recycling that protects Loreto’s beauty today — and preserves it for future generations.
Mining Pollution
Say No to Mining. Say Yes to Loreto.
Loreto’s natural beauty and fragile ecosystems are under threat. Mining operators continue to target the San Javier region for gold, silver, and copper extraction — a risk that could permanently damage the land and water we all depend on. Equally alarming is the potential spread of toxic heavy metals from mining sludge found on the beaches of Santa Rosalía, just 92 miles to the north.
At Keep Loreto Magical, we work to raise public awareness, mobilize our community, and collaborate with local businesses and government leaders to keep mining out of Loreto — protecting this treasured region for generations to come.
Research
Water & Sewage
In the Desert, Every Drop Counts.
Clean water is essential — for people, wildlife, and the future of Loreto.
With support from Keep Loreto Magical, The Ocean Foundation continues to investigate, monitor, and advocate for the protection of Loreto’s vital water resources. Together, we focus on the integrity of the drinking water supply and the safety and effectiveness of sewage and wastewater treatment systems.
By identifying risks, promoting solutions, and working alongside local authorities and experts, we’re helping ensure a clean, reliable water system for the health of our communities and the sustainability of our environment.
