EVENT ENDED - Volunteers Needed - Ted the Pelican

“ted” the Pelican

This brown pelican (young male), Ted, came to us via the marine park staff, 4 months ago. Males have a longer beak than females. He lost his left wing to what seems a bite from a dog on the beach. Some how he survived it all after antibiotics, anti inflammatory drugs, more than 50 sardines per day, and lots of love. It was very painful journey.

Now, he gets to try living his life without a left wing and living among humans. With permission of the Marine Park we are taking him out to sea on kayak or SUP to get use to humans and have humans get use to him as he will live close to our community for the foreseeable future. If you would like to be part of the volunteers that aid in this task, please contact us.. We will take him out in the mornings, and on weekends with different humans and hope he tries to fish.

Thank you to all who aided in his recovery:

Vet Juan Jr Mvz Juan Cortes, and wildlife vet in La Paz Rebeca Kobelkowsky

Volunteers: Carlos Gastelum, Carlos Valdes, Lalo, Luz del Carmen, Rosario, Norman and Linda Christie, Denise Stubbs and Chris Burson, Erik and Isabel and Alexandria Yenzer for all the love.

Carmen Island: Getting us sea salt.

Antonio Davis for all the fresh sardines!

Russell Demers and Cindy Demers: for putting us on the path to help birds. Thank you so much!

If you find a wildlife animal hurt or in distress, please call the Loreto Bay National Park at 613 135 1429 or 613 135 0477. Or we can help call them too. We help the Loreto Bay National Park or Profepa BCS in these tasks when they request it.

Thank you for reading and have a great day on the water!
